Finalizing Installation

Finalizing the Omni installation

You finished the OmniStream installation and hopefully opted to manage your DNS settings through CloudFlare. Congratulations, the hard work is done! Almost there… just a few more steps left.

The “omni menu” command

Seriously, that is all you ever need to remember. Whenever you need to perform some action, “omni menu” is your best friend. If you haven’t done so yet, log out of PuTTY and back in as your user. Then type:

omni menu

Any time you want to make changes, you can revisit this menu.

Selecting containers

Omni is installed, but you still need to select what containers you want to activate. In the omni menu, select 1 - Omni Control.

Then scroll down and select omni components.

Pick your components

In the following menu, select the applications you want to enable.

Important: pick any combination of apps you want, but make sure you don’t activate duplicate versions, such as Traefik and the Traefik CloudFlare version, or Plex and the Plex hardware version, etc.

Click OK to go confirm your selection and go back to the previous menu.

Activating Omni

Now that you have your applications selected, you will need to start your containers. In the main menu, pick the first option: omni up.

Watch the magic happen… Omni is up and running!

Updating containers

The last menu item that you’ll probably be using quite frequently is omni update.

This will update your OmniStream installation with all the latest features, as well as any containers to their latest build. I run this command at least three times a week!

  • Pro tip: you can use the menu to select the option you need, but you can also directly type the command in the terminal and bypass the menu altogether! So you can always type “omni components” to install more apps, or “omni update” your containers, etc.

That is all you need to know to get Omni up and running. For a more in depth explanation of the menu options, see the document Omni Commands.

That's all, folks!

Congratulations, you’re done and your OmniStream should now be up and running with the apps that you need. You also know the basics to run and maintain your new server.
